This document is part of the 360 tours project Toolkit developed by Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) led by Cenovus Energy Inc., in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada. The ultimate goal of the 360 tours project is to improve accessibility to forest restoration knowledge for individuals that are unable to be in the field.

This document introduces the unknown opportunity of soil salvage piles, which can sit unattended at a site for anywhere from 20-50 years. It suggests taking advantage of the piles and creating a "rough surface/textured surface" through mounding, to increase the revegetation of species like pine and trembling aspen in a variety of soils, including poor-nutrition sites. The regeneration can then provide habitat for wildlife and return valuable nutrients back to the soil while the pile waits to be spread during reclamation.  It can be found on their 360 tours site, which includes a silviculture toolkit containing videos, factsheets, guidebooks, and practical tips. In addition, the site includes virtual tours of previously restored sites.
