Forest practitioners across British Columbia now have a powerful new tool to support innovation and adaptive management in forestry with the official launch of the SIP Exchange (SIPex) — a user-friendly, openly accessible portal designed to connect people, knowledge, and practice in the field of innovative silviculture

Developed in response to growing demand for easier access to practical, credible, and current information, SIPex (short for Silviculture Innovation Program Exchange) brings together curated resources, expert directories, and communities of practice in a single searchable platform. It aims to help practitioners find and apply the information they need to make better decisions for sustainable forest management.

What You’ll Find on SIPex

  • Resource Library: Access best management practices, technical reports, case studies, extension notes, risk reduction plans, and more — all tailored to address specific challenges in innovative silviculture.

  • Communities of Practice & Expert Directory: Discover who’s working on what. Connect with experts and peers to exchange ideas, collaborate, or seek advice.

  • Training & Education Opportunities: Find learning opportunities to advance your skills in key areas of silviculture.

  • Featured Topics & Syntheses: Stay up to date with curated, plain-language summaries and synthesized knowledge on pressing topics.

A True Knowledge Exchange

SIPex is designed not just for accessing knowledge but for sharing it. Practitioners can:

  • Submit new resources (digital or non-digital)

  • Nominate experts or join the directory

  • Add communities of practice or training opportunities

  • Identify gaps in the repository

Guided by Core Principles

SIPex is built on values that reflect the needs of the forestry community: practitioner-driven, inclusive of multiple knowledge systems, transparent, adaptable, and built to last.

Who Can Use SIPex?

While designed with BC forest practitioners in mind — including professionals, researchers, Guardians, and stewards — SIPex is open to anyone interested in improving forest practices through knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Built to Grow with the Community

SIPex will continue to evolve, with new content, tools, and connections added regularly in response to practitioner feedback and emerging needs. Its curated approach ensures that the most relevant, high-impact resources remain at the forefront.
