This workshop, taught by co‐authors of the Alberta Tier 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines,
offers guidance and practice in the calculation and application of Tier 2 guidelines. The training provides
opportunities for identification and discussion of technical and process issues related to Tier 2, data
evaluation and hands‐on modelling of Tier 2 guidelines.
Participants are assumed to have a working knowledge of the Tier 1 & 2 guidelines.
The material covered in the workshop comprises: an overview of the Tier 1 & 2 guidelines; presentation of
the technical methodology, process and regulatory requirements for Tier 2 guideline adjustment;
discussion of data requirements for Tier 2 and how to ensure data are appropriately collected;
demonstration of Tier 2 modelling methods for groundwater transport and vapour intrusion; and
hands‐on practice in Tier 2 guideline calculation and implementation using actual contaminated site case
studies.
Attendees will be provided case study files and appropriate modelling tools. Participants are
required to provide their own laptops capable of running browser-based software
