This 25-hour introductory soil science course led by Dr. Konstantin Dlusskiy includes elements of surficial geology relevant to archaeological investigations:
• Soil properties diagnostic for soil types and for ecological conditions
• Formation of soil orders typical for Western Canada
• Typical Quaternary sediments (glacial and post-glacial) and their diagnostic features
• Types of bedrock that occur in Western Canada
• In-person practicum on soil texture, structure and color
• Elaboration on typical examples from archaeological sites
