Catchment and Wetland Science (CAWS) Seminar Series

Avni Malhotra from Stanford University will be presenting on October 8, 2020 at 2:00PM MST on Getting to the Root of it: Climate Change in Peatlands.

Peatlands store one-third of the world's soil carbon and are vulnerable to global change. Peatland carbon cycling responses to environmental change will be mediated in part by changes in vegetation structure and traits. This talk will explore 1) vegetation drivers of peatland carbon fluxes and their response to permafrost thaw and warming, 2) research on a keyknowledge gap, belowground plant responses to environmental change, and its consequences for peatland net carbon balance, and 3) peatlands in the context of global carbon fluxes and pools.
