The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is planning its inaugural virtual meeting, to occur on December 1-3, 2020.  The theme for this ground-breaking meeting is “Wetland Connections Over 40 Years”.  Although we cannot be physically together, we can still socially connect and share our important wetland science updates using the virtual setting to which we have (perhaps somewhat begrudgingly) become accustomed.  We have selected the mud turtle (Kinosternon spp.) as the conference mascot.  These and other aquatic turtles connect wetlands via overland migrations, an apt analogy for this virtual meeting to connect all of us using a virtual platform.  SWS Chapters, Sections, and the Planning Committee are developing program symposia now and are accepting abstracts for lightning talks to share compelling local and international topics related to wetland science, conservation, and management.

Although we could not gather in-person for an annual meeting in 2020, the Society of Wetland Scientists has remained resilient and adapted to various challenges.  We are excited to offer both live and pre-recorded programming, including plenary speakers, symposia, and a new-to-SWS presentation format of 5-minute lightning talks.  All program presentations will be recorded, allowing you to view them at your leisure, no matter your location in the world.  We hope this inaugural virtual meeting will create opportunities to make wetland connections for the next 40 years and beyond.
