ABMI Launches the Algal Bloom Tracker

The Algal Bloom Tracker provides near real-time monitoring and visualizations of cyanobacterial blooms in six popular recreational lakes across the province (Ethel Lake, Lac La Biche, Sylvan Lake, Nakamun Lake, Pigeon Lake, and Wabamun Lake).

Funded by Alberta Innovates and Alberta Primary and Preventative Health Services and developed through a collaborative pilot project involving twelve provincial partners, the free tracker uses satellite imagery, remote sensing technology, lake sampling, and scientific validation to track bloom activity and support public awareness.
