This report is a survey of remote sensing technology and its applicability to the environmental study needs of the tar sands area. The report includes examples of surveys of this nature that have already been completed by Syncrude Canada Ltd. No attempt is made here to provide detailed analysis of the many habitat types within the area of the tar sands. The 'intentions are to suggest the appropriate use of remote sensing technology in future studies and to illuminate the value of existing data for environmental surveys. This monograph, based on work done by L.G.L. Limited – Environmental Research Associates and prepared by Dr. Allan Falconer and James Nalbach, includes remote sensing imagery prepared by Machair Limited of Calgary, interpreted by the Sibbald Group and Dr. Falconer.
