I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta in the Catchment and Wetland Science Research Group. I am studying the downstream effects of permafrost thaw in northern peatlands. I focus on methylmercury, a potent neurotoxin, in streams and ponds within peatland catchments across the Taiga Plains in northern Alberta and Northwest Territories. My research takes place on Indigenous territory that that spans the land of the Gwitch’in, Dehcho Dene, Dene Tha’, Woodland Cree, Big Stone Cree, and Metis peoples.
