Wetlands of Alberta’s Boreal Foothills – A Wetlands in the Boreal Workshop Series

Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Athabasca Watershed Council (AWC) are teaming up to host an exciting two-day workshop all about wetlands in the Athabasca Region!

Location: Hinton, AB
We will confirm the exact venue closer to the event date.
Dates: June 16 & 17, 2026
Doors Open: 8:30 AM
Programming Begins: 9:00 AM
Lunch provided

Day 1

The morning of the first day will be spent indoors learning about the different wetlands found in Alberta and how to identify them.

You’ll also explore wetland ecosystem services and the important values they provide.

In the afternoon, we’ll take it outside! Put your new knowledge into action as we identify wetlands and classify different wetland types in the field.

Day 2

Day 2 will be a full day in the field exploring a variety of wetlands. We will cover topics such as wetland crossing structures and methods, discussing their impacts and reviewing best practices for planning, constructing, and maintaining these crossings.

We will also explore how wetlands and fire interact, including the effects of fire on the region and opportunities for wetland stewardship moving forward.

We are excited to provide this workshop free of charge to participants, thanks to the Alberta Government's Watershed Restorations and Resiliency Program.
