Watersheds Without Walls: Building Flood and Drought Resilience Through Partnership
Wetlands play a key role in enhancing the resilience of Alberta’s water resources and in mitigating the impacts of flood and drought events, while providing critical ecosystem services foundational to healthy watersheds. The Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) of Lesser Slave, Athabasca, and Mighty Peace will present examples of collaborative, on‑the‑ground projects and restoration initiatives that strengthen wetlands and watershed health. A panel discussion with WPAC practitioners will follow, offering insights into practical stewardship approaches, lessons learned, and opportunities to advance cross‑sector collaboration for wetland and watershed stewardship.
This webinar is supported by the Alberta Government’s Watershed Restoration and Resiliency Program with the objective of increasing stewardship of watersheds through greater understanding and awareness among the public, land-use decision makers and other key stakeholders of the importance of watershed functions, and their relationship to flood and drought mitigation.
