Day 1
We’ll start indoors with a deep dive into Alberta’s incredible variety of wetlands. You’ll learn about wetland identification and classification, as well as wetland functions and values. The Swan River First Nation Kanawewim’nan Nikawiy Askiy Consultation team will join us to share their perspective on wetlands and the environment.
In the afternoon, we’ll head outdoors to explore important community sites, such as the Swan River First Nation medicinal gardens. The Kanawewim’nan Nikawiy Askiy Consultation team will share the story behind these spaces and highlight the impact of some of their recent environmental initiatives.
Day 2
On day two, we will put your new wetland knowledge into action as we identify different wetland types in the field and discuss the valuable services wetlands provide to the Lesser Slave Watershed and its communities. We will explore wetland services such as water regulation and purification, biodiversity, climate regulation, and carbon storage.
We are excited to provide this workshop free of charge to participants, thanks to the Alberta Government's Watershed Restorations and Resiliency Program.
