This no-cost online event will provide a forum to learn about wetland classification and hydrology field methods. As we are unable to host an in-person event, participants will virtually explore the Wetland Centre site and boreal wetlands in the context of resource management and best management practices.

What is the Wetland Centre? Canada’s first outdoor, hands-on site for boreal wetlands training, research and industry demonstrations. Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and the Evergreen Learning and Innovation Society (ELIS) are exploring the development of a Wetland Centre located at Evergreen Park in the County of Grande Prairie, northwest Alberta. The Wetland Centre aims to foster connections between diverse groups including industry, government, Indigenous communities, and other interested groups and individuals to allow for the respectful exchange of innovative ideas. Learn more about the Centre here.

Why should you attend?

This is an opportunity to learn about boreal wetlands, wetland hydrology field methods, innovative projects happening at the Wetland Centre and how to get involved. Participants will…

  • Learn about the Wetland Centre at Evergreen Park from the people behind the project, existing projects and demonstrations, and future plans.
  • Be one of the first groups to virtually tour the Centre using 360-degree images, maps, photos and a digital story map.
  • Hear from subject matter experts and learn about boreal wetlands identification, classification and functions according to the Alberta Wetland Classification System.
  • Learn about wetland hydrology with Dr. Scott Ketcheson including how water moves across the landscape, the influence of snow and snowmelt, and understand how to gain insights on water movement through hydroloy field methods.
  • Explore opportunities to get involved at the Centre

This workshop will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants to provide a forum to engage with experts, ask questions, and discuss opportunities to get involved or utilize the site.

This training is eligible for professional development credits under the Association of Alberta Professional Forest Management Professionals (AAFMP).
