The National Tree Seed Centre (NTSC) is safeguarding Canada’s forest genetic resources. In response to the threat posed by the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire), the NTSC is storing seed from ash (Fraxinus spp.) trees to preserve the genetic diversity of ash in Canada. This is part of an international effort to collect germplasm from across the ranges of many Fraxinus species in North America. Seed may be used for restoration of the species or for research contributing to strategies that would aid in the protection of the ash resource.
