Global warming may cause photosynthesis to start earlier. As the climate warms, spring arrives earlier and fall ends later. This change in temperature affects how trees grow. Gretta Goodine of the Canadian Forest Service – Atlantic Forestry Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick, has found that earlier warming of the soil and air during spring leads to earlier onset of photosynthesis in balsam fir (Abies balsamea L).
