In March 2012, the Government of Alberta and Alberta Innovates: Bio-solutions hosted a LiDAR workshop for practitioners to discuss how LiDAR technologies are being used across the province and beyond. Dr. Barry White, Forest Management Specialist with AE&SRD, discussed how his department is using LiDAR data, and how various partnerships are developing between departments in order to develop standards and share innovations. One major project using LiDAR data has been the wet areas mapping initiative.

In March 2012, over 300 people gathered in Edmonton to participate in a 2-day workshop about how LiDAR technology is being used in Alberta, and the potential future applications for LiDAR data. The Land-use Knowledge Network was able to record the presentations.
