Nicole Kimmel provides a history of weed control in Canada and Alberta focusing on invasive weeds and their impact on natural landscapes and agriculture. She inventories the bad and the truly dangerous. After she describes weed characteristics and their effects on other plants, landscapes and wildlife, the battle to prevent invasive weeds from taking root in Alberta makes sense. Prevention is key and the public are key participants since most of the dangerous and noxious weeds have come via gardeners and landscapers. Nicole Kimmel finishes by describing in detail the prohibited and noxious weeds and their distribution in different parts of Alberta.
