This is the first in a series of three information reports on white spruce based on the lifetime of work and passion of Dr. Roy F. Sutton (deceased) from the Canadian Forest Service, Great Lakes Forestry Centre. The historical review brings together a vast amount of information about white spruce. It is also a testament to Dr. Sutton’s long and dedicated efforts. The first report includes a comprehensive review of white spruce genetic variation, population studies, preferred growing conditions, ecological succession and current distribution.
