Entering Ethical Space 2021 workshop: Partnerships for Caribou Recovery - Protecting the Sacred Twin Sisters

Location

Canada

Start Date

On February 21, 2020 the Intergovernmental Partnership Agreement for the Recovery of the Central Group of Southern Mountain Caribou was signed by the governments of British Columbia, Canada, Saulteau First Nations, and West Moberly First Nations. Join us to hear more about the very successful Indigenous-led caribou conservation program that led to this historic and ground-breaking new agreement.

Saulteau elder, former Chief, and current Councilor Ken Cameron will explain the historic and cultural significance of the area and reflect on his experiences in bringing the agreement together. The maternal pen and other components of the caribou recovery program will be discussed and explained by Naomi Owens-Beek, R.P.Bio., a Saulteau member and Director of the Treaty Rights and Environmental Protection department. Some key aspects of the agreement, which includes ~ 206,000 hectares of new Class A Park lands and ~ 800,000 hectares of other new protected areas, will be highlighted by Saulteau’s lawyer and negotiator, James Hickling.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear more about the amazing potential for partnerships in conservation.

Please RSVP for the February 17 workshop.
