Sunsetting of the National Boreal Caribou Knowledge Consortium

Caribou on Road

The National Boreal Caribou Knowledge Consortium (NBCKC), a collaborative group led by a Secretariat within Environment and Climate Change Canada, was a founding member of the Canadian Conservation and Land Management (CCLM) Knowledge Portal. The NBCKC was the steward of the CCLM’s Boreal Caribou Portal since the site’s inception in 2020. Under the NBCKC’s stewardship, the Boreal Caribou Portal grew to contain more than 500 resources, including those created by the NBCKC.

As part of the Government of Canada’s Comprehensive Expenditure Review (CER), federal departments were asked to identify opportunities for efficiency and budget reduction.  In this context, ECCC has made the difficult decision to conclude the NBCKC Secretariat. With that decision comes the end of the NBCKC’s stewardship of the Boreal Caribou Portal.

Information about and from the NBCKC will remain present on the CCLM. The CCLM team (including Ducks Unlimited Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Innotech Alberta) is working to secure a new steward of the boreal caribou section of the website. During this transition period, if you have news, events, or resources related to boreal caribou that you would like to add to the site, please reach out to the CCLM administrator at connect@cclmportal.ca.
