Evidence of Migratory Coupling Between Grey Wolves and Migratory Caribou
Resource
Abstract Large-scale animal migrations influence population and community dynamics along with ecosystem functioning. The migratory coupling concept posits that movement of migrant prey can lead to...
Evolutionary Reconstruction of Peary Caribou Supports the Presence of a Pleistocene Polar Refugium for a Large Mammal Species
Resource
Investigation of the potential existence of Arctic refugia during the Pleistocene for a large mammal species in the Canadian Archipelago.
Examination of Two New Technologies to Assess the Diet of Woodland Caribou: Video Recorders Attached to Collars and DNA Barcoding
Resource
This resource is available on an external database and may require a paid subscription to access it. It is included on the CCLM to support our goal of capturing and sharing the breadth of all...
Examining Management Scenarios to Mitigate Wildfire Hazard to Caribou
Resource
We undertook a wildfire risk assessment across the Cold Lake caribou range where we used the Burn-P3 model to determine: a) burn probability; b) wildfire risk to restored seismic line areas; and c) the effectiveness of mitigation measures. The burn probability of the landscape was highly heterogeneous, and recent large burns and some waterbodies provided “shields” that reduced burn probability on their leeward sides.
Examining the Role of Terrestrial Lichen Transplants in Restoring Woodland Caribou Winter Habitat
Resource

Expansion of Kitaskino Nuwenëné Wildland Provincial Park contributes to the largest protected area of boreal forest in the world
News
Organization
A recent expansion of northern Alberta’s Kitaskino Nuwenëné Wildland Provincial Park adjacent to Birch River Wildland Provincial Park and Wood Buffalo National Park significantly increases what...
Expansion of white-tailed deer populations in boreal landscapes and its implications for managing woodland caribou
Event
Organization
The Alberta Regional Caribou Knowledge Partnership (ARCKP) is pleased to present "Expansion of white-tailed deer populations in boreal landscapes and its implications for managing woodland caribou."...
Experimental Design for Estimating White-Tailed Deer Occupancy, Density, and Habitat Selection in Alberta’s Boreal Forest
Resource
In this year we analyzed the study landscape using GIS, reclassified AVI data into deer habitat categories, and created the experimental design for sampling deer occupancy using remote cameras. We...
Experimental Moose Reduction Lowers Wolf Density and Stops Decline of Endangered Caribou
Resource
Using an adaptive management experiment, we tested the hypothesis that reducing moose to historic levels would reduce apparent competition and therefor recover caribou populations.
Experimental Reduction of Wolves in the Yukon: Ungulate Responses and Management Implications
Resource

Exploring the Implementation of Aggregated Harvest in Woodland Caribou Ranges
Event
Organization
The Alberta Regional Caribou Knowledge Partnership (ARCKP) is pleased to present "Exploring the Implementation of Aggregated Harvest in Woodland Caribou Ranges." This webinar, presented by Logan Purdy...
Exploring the Tradeoffs Among Forest Planning, Roads and Wildlife Corridors: A New Approach

Exploring Winter Diet, Gut Microbiota and Parasitism in Caribou Using Multi-marker Metabarcoding of Fecal DNA
Resource
In conservation strategies, getting precise and repeatable information on the species’ diet and health without relying on invasive or laborious methods is challenging. Here, we developed an efficient...
Exposure to Historical Burn Rates Shapes the Response of Boreal Caribou to Timber Harvesting
Resource
Studying the response of wildlife to anthropogenic disturbances in light of their evolutionary history may help explain their capacity to adapt to novel ecological conditions. In the North American...
Extending the National Burned Area Composite Time Series of Wildfires in Canada
Resource
This study created a 35-year time series of wildfire burned areas in Canada from 1986 to 2020, using data from satellite imagery and aerial surveys. Wildfires are a major natural disturbance in Canada...
Extirpation Despite Regulation? Environmental Assessment and Caribou
Resource
Many caribou populations in Canada face extirpation despite dozens of provincial and federal legislative instruments designed to protect them. How are industrial developments that impact caribou...
