British Columbia's Draft Boreal Caribou Protection and Recovery Plan – Public Engagement Results

Results of the public engagement process regarding proposed management measures to support boreal caribou recovery outlined in British Columbia’s Draft Boreal Caribou Protection and Recovery Plan are available in a newly released report.  

The report details feedback from various stakeholder groups regarding draft management goals and objectives, as well as proposed habitat management measures, development of a predator management program, and adaptive management, evaluation, and monitoring measures.

Transplanting lichen to grow food for threatened caribou

Researchers are exploring the transplanting of lichen as a potential tool for caribou habitat restoration. Natural disturbance, resource development, and land-use changes have resulted in a reduced availability of this important, yet slow-growing food source for caribou. This project is seeking to shorten the time frame for regeneration – early results show that transplanted lichen is persisting with minimal to no signs of stress.
