The Doig River First Nation (DRFN) has prepared this madziih Traditional Knowledge and Restoration Study based on DRFN traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), as a step towards reclaiming this responsibility for caribou in the Chinchaga range. Through interviews and focus groups with DRFN knowledge-holders, this study uses traditional knowledge to describe cultural rules surrounding madziih hunting practices, seasonally important habitat areas, including movement corridors, calving grounds, rutting areas and wintering sites, and observed impacts to important madziih habitat areas. Based on this traditional knowledge, DRFN has identified 14 management recommendations for boreal caribou in the Chinchaga range. To learn more read the report today!
